Modelling the Cost-Effectiveness of Early Awareness Interventions for the Early Detection of Lung Cancer

Survival rates of lung cancer in England are significantly lower than several countries with similar levels of healthcare expenditure.  This may be related to a poor rate of presentation to primary care with symptoms of lung cancer.  This research reports the first attempt to assess the cost-effectiveness of campaigns to improve the rate of presentation and in doing so considers the natural history of the disease before diagnosis has occurred.

Outputs

  • Invited podium presentation at the second National Awareness and Early Diagnosis Initiative (NAEDI), 17th April 2013
  • Poster presentation at the forthcoming annual Public Health England conference 10-11 September 2013
  • Unpublished report currently under peer review.

The cost-effectiveness of therapies currently used in routine practice

Recent advancements in the routine collection of data on treatment pathways of patients diagnosed with all forms of cancer has facilitated the cost-effectiveness analysis of therapies used in routine practice. This project aims to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of cancer therapies currently used in routine practice.
